ਬੈਰਾੜੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੪ ॥ ਜਪਿ ਮਨ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਸਤਾਰਾ ॥ ਕੋਟ ਕੋਟੰਤਰ ਕੇ ਪਾਪ ਸਭਿ ਖੋਵੈ ਹਰਿ ਭਵਜਲੁ ਪਾਰਿ ਉਤਾਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ ਕਾਇਆ ਨਗਰਿ ਬਸਤ ਹਰਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਹਰਿ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਨਿਰਵੈਰੁ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰਾ ॥ ਹਰਿ ਨਿਕਟਿ ਬਸਤ ਕਛੁ ਨਦਰਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਹਰਿ ਲਾਧਾ ਗੁਰ ਵੀਚਾਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਹਰਿ ਆਪੇ ਸਾਹੁ ਸਰਾਫੁ ਰਤਨੁ ਹੀਰਾ ਹਰਿ ਆਪਿ ਕੀਆ ਪਾਸਾਰਾ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਸੁ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਸੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਹਾਝੇ ਸੋ ਸਾਹੁ ਸਚਾ ਵਣਜਾਰਾ ॥੨॥੪||

O (my) mind! By chanting the name of God, (this name from the world-ocean) will be removed. (God's name) destroys all the sins (committed) of many souls, God makes (the meditator) pass across the world-ocean. 1. Stay.

(O brother!) The Master-Lord dwells in (our) body-city, (yet) He has no fear, He has no enmity, He has no particular shape. God dwells (always) close to us, (but we) do not see (yes,) He is found green with the grace of the Guru. 1.

(With Guru's Bakhshi Mati, it is understood that) God Himself is the Diamond, Himself the Gem, Himself (the one who wields it) is the King, is the Seraph, He Himself has created this universe. O Nanak! The person on whom God favors, that person speaks his name, that person becomes the moneylender (of the name-gem), he continues to trade (this name-gem) forever. 2.4.

ਹੇ (ਮੇਰੇ) ਮਨ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਿਆ ਕਰ, (ਇਹ ਨਾਮ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਪਾਰ-ਉਤਾਰਾ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ। (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ) ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਦੇ (ਕੀਤੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਾਪ ਨਾਸ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ) ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।

(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਸਾਡੇ) ਸਰੀਰ-ਸ਼ਹਰ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਫਿਰ ਭੀ) ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਡਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੋਂਹਦਾ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਸੇ ਨਾਲ ਵੈਰ ਨਹੀਂ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਖ਼ਾਸ ਆਕਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ। ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਸਦਾ ਸਾਡੇ) ਨੇੜੇ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਪਰ ਸਾਨੂੰ) ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ (ਹਾਂ,) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ੀ ਸੂਝ ਨਾਲ ਉਹ ਹਰੀ ਲੱਭ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।੧।

(ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ੀ ਮਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਇਹ ਸਮਝ ਆ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਹੀਰਾ ਹੈ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਰਤਨ ਹੈ, ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਹਾਝਣ ਵਾਲਾ) ਸ਼ਾਹ ਹੈ ਸਰਾਫ਼ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਇਹ ਜਗਤ ਦਾ ਖਿਲਾਰਾ ਰਚਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਹਾਝਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਨਾਮ-ਰਤਨ ਦਾ) ਸਾਹੂਕਾਰ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਲਈ (ਇਸ ਨਾਮ-ਰਤਨ ਦਾ) ਵਣਜ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।੨।੪।
