 ਬਿਲਾਵਲੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥ ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਸੁਤ ਸਾਥਿ ਨ ਮਾਇਆ ॥ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਸਭੁ ਦੂਖੁ ਮਿਟਾਇਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਆਪੇ ॥ ਹਰਿ ਜਪੁ ਰਸਨਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਨ ਵਿਆਪੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ਤਿਖਾ ਭੂਖ ਬਹੁ ਤਪਤਿ ਵਿਆਪਿਆ ॥ ਸੀਤਲ ਭਏ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਜਾਪਿਆ ॥੨॥ ਕੋਟਿ ਜਤਨ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ॥ ਮਨੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਾਨਾ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇਆ ॥੩॥ ਦੇਹੁ ਭਗਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਕੀ ਬੇਨੰਤੀ ਸੁਆਮੀ ॥੪॥੫॥

ਅਰਥ: ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇਹੜਾ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ ਉਸ (ਦੇ ਨਾਮ) ਦਾ ਜਾਪ ਜੀਭ ਨਾਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹੁ (ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਕੋਈ ਦੁੱਖ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦਾ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮਾਂ, ਪਿਉ, ਪੁੱਤਰ, ਮਾਇਆ-(ਇਹਨਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਜੀਵ ਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਲਈ) ਸਾਥੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਣ ਸਕਦਾ, (ਦੁੱਖ ਵਾਪਰਨ ਤੇ ਭੀ ਸਹਾਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਣ ਸਕਦਾ) । ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਿਆਂ ਸਾਰਾ ਦੁੱਖ-ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਸਕੀਦਾ ਹੈ।੧।

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਗਤ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਭੁੱਖ ਤੇ ਸੜਨ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਿਆ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ। ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ) ਠੰਢੇ-ਠਾਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।੨।

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਕ੍ਰੋੜਾਂ ਜਤਨ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਭੀ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਵਲੋਂ) ਸੰਤੋਖ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ। ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਂਇਆਂ ਮਨ ਰੱਜ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।੩।

ਹੇ ਹਰੇਕ ਦੇ ਦਿਲ ਦੀ ਜਾਣਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਹੇ ਮਾਲਕ! ਤੇਰੇ ਦਾਸ) ਨਾਨਕ ਦੀ (ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ) ਬੇਨਤੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਆਪਣੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਦਾ ਦਾਨ ਦੇਹ।੪।੫।੧੦।

O brother! The God who is pervading all beings, keep chanting His (name) with the tongue (in this way), no sorrow can prevail. 1. Stay.

O brother! Mother, father, son, Maya-(none of these can become a companion of a being forever), (cannot be helpful even when sorrow occurs). By remaining in the company of the Guru, one can remove all sorrows and troubles. 1.

O brother! The world is trapped in the craving for Maya, the hunger for Maya, and the burning of Maya. Those who praise God, (their hearts) become cold and cool. 2.

O brother! Even after making millions of efforts, one does not get satisfaction (from the craving for Maya). Singing songs of the Lord's praise, the mind becomes satisfied. 3.

O Lord, who knows everyone's heart! O Master! Your servant (Nanak) requests (at your door) that you give the gift of your devotion.4.5.10.

ਅਰਥ: (ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇਆ ਕਰ, ਅਚਰਜ-ਰੂਪ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਦਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਧਰਿਆ ਕਰ, (ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਤੇਰਾ) ਇਹ ਲੋਕ (ਅਤੇ ਤੇਰਾ) ਪਰਲੋਕ ਦੋਵੇਂ ਸੁਖੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਣਗੇ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।

(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾ ਕੇ) ਇਸ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਨੂੰ ਸਫਲ ਕਰ ਲੈ ਜੋ ਬੜੀ ਮੁਸ਼ਕਿਲ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਤੂੰ ਇਥੋਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਦੀ ਬਾਜੀ) ਹਾਰ ਕੇ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਏਂਗਾ; ਤੈਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਅਤੇ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਸੋਭਾ ਮਿਲੇਗੀ। (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ) ਤੈਨੂੰ ਅਖ਼ੀਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਭੀ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ ਬੰਧਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਛਡਾ ਲਏਗੀ।੧।

(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਉਠਦਿਆਂ ਬੈਠਦਿਆਂ (ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਿਆ ਕਰ, (ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਸਾਰਾ ਦੁੱਖ-ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। (ਨਾਮ ਜਪਿਆਂ ਤੇਰੇ) ਸਾਰੇ ਵੈਰੀ (ਤੇਰੇ) ਮਿੱਤਰ ਬਣ ਜਾਣਗੇ, ਤੇਰਾ ਆਪਣਾ ਮਨ (ਵੈਰ ਆਦਿਕ ਤੋਂ) ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਏਗਾ।੨।

(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨਾ ਹੀ) ਸਾਰੇ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਚੰਗਾ ਕੰਮ ਹੈ, ਸਾਰੇ ਧਰਮਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਇਹੀ ਵਧੀਆ ਧਰਮ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਨ ਨਾਲ ਤੇਰਾ ਪਾਰ-ਉਤਾਰਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਏਗਾ। (ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜਨਮਾਂ (ਦੇ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਮੈਲ) ਦਾ ਭਾਰ ਲਹਿ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।੩।

(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ) ਤੇਰੀ (ਹਰੇਕ) ਆਸ ਪੂਰੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਏਗੀ, ਤੇਰੀ ਜਮਾਂ ਵਾਲੀ ਫਾਹੀ (ਭੀ) ਕੱਟੀ ਜਾਏਗੀ। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਆਖ-ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ (ਇਹ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦਾ) ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ (ਸਦਾ) ਸੁਣਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਇਸ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਆਤਮਕ ਸੁਖ ਵਿਚ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਜਾਈਦਾ ਹੈ।੪।੩੦।੪੧।

Meaning: (O brother!) Sing the praises of God, meditate on the wonderful and eternal God, (in this way) both your world (and your) hereafter will become happy.1.Relax.

(O brother! By singing the praises of God), make this human body successful, which is obtained with great difficulty, (with the blessings of praise and worship, you will not lose the game of human birth here and go to the shrine; you will get glory in this world and in the hereafter. (The praises of God) will free you even at the last moment (from the bonds of attachment to Maya).1.

(O brother!) Chant the name of God (at all times) while getting up and sitting down, (with the blessings of the name) all sorrows and troubles are destroyed. (By chanting your name) all enemies will become your friends, your own mind will become pure (from enmity etc.).2.

(O brother! Remembrance of the Name of God) is the best of all works, this is the best of all religions. O brother! By reminiscing about the Name of God, you will be transcended. (By the blessings of reminiscing) the burden of many births (of the vices of sins) is lifted. 3.

(O brother! By reminiscing) your (every) hope will be fulfilled, the noose that you have accumulated will (also) be cut. O Nanak! Say - O brother!) The Guru's (this Naam simar) instruction should be (always) heard, (by its blessings) one remains in spiritual peace and spiritual stability. 4.30.41.

ਅਰਥ: ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ! ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਝੰਬੇਲਿਆਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਦੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਬਚਾ ਲੈ। ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਣ ਦੀ ਸਮਰਥਾ ਦੇਹ। ਮੈਂ (ਤੇਰੇ ਪਾਸੋਂ) ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਤੇਰੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਦਾ ਦਾਨ ਮੰਗ ਰਿਹਾ ਹਾਂ।ਰਹਾਉ।

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਧਰਮ ਦੱਸ ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਝੰਬੇਲਿਆਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਬਚਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕੇ। ਮੈਂ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਝੰਬੇਲਿਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਣਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ। ਦੱਸ; ਮੈਂ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਬਚਾਂ? (ਉੱਤਰ-) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਜਾਪ ਬੇੜੀ ਹੈ, ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਤੁਲਹਾ ਹੈ। ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਜਪਿਆ ਉਹ ਤਾਰੂ ਬਣ ਕੇ (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।੧।

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਬਚਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਿਆ, ਉਹ ਸੇਵਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਲੱਗਦੇ ਹਨ। ਚਿੱਤਰ ਗੁਪਤ ਨੇ ਜੇਹੜਾ ਭੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ (ਦੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ) ਦਾ ਲੇਖ ਲਿਖ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਸੀ, ਧਰਮਰਾਜ ਦਾ ਉਹ ਸਾਰਾ ਹਿਸਾਬ ਹੀ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।੨।

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਸਾਧ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਬੈਠ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਜਾਪ ਕੀਤਾ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਕੱਲਿਆਣ ਰੂਪ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਪਰਗਟ ਹੋ ਪਿਆ, ਮਾਨੋ) ਠੰਢਕ ਪੁਚਾਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਚੰਦ ਚੜ੍ਹ ਪਿਆ, ਜਿਸ ਨੇ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਦੀ ਅੱਗ ਬੁਝਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ; (ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦਾ) ਤਪਦਾ ਸੂਰਜ (ਸ਼ਾਂਤ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ) ।੩।

ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਡਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈਂ; ਤੂੰ ਅਪਹੁੰਚ ਹੈਂ; ਗਿਆਨ-ਇੰਦ੍ਰਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਤਕ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ। ਤੂੰ (ਹਰ ਥਾਂ) ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਪ, ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਪ ਹੈਂ। ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਆਪਣੇ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ ਉਤੇ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ, ਤੇ, ਆਪਣੇ ਦਾਸਾਂ ਦੇ ਦਾਸਾਂ ਦਾ ਦਾਸ ਬਣਾ ਲੈ।੪।੬।

Tell me, O Siblings of Destiny, the religion for this Dark Age of Kali Yuga. I seek emancipation — how can I be emancipated? Meditation on the Lord, Har, Har, is the boat, the raft; meditating on the Lord, the swimmer swims across. || 1 || O Dear Lord, protect and preserve the honor of Your humble servant. O Lord, Har, Har, please make me chant the chant of Your Name; I beg only for Your devotional worship. || Pause || The Lord’s servants are very dear to the Lord; they chant the Word of the Lord’s Bani. The account of the recording angels, Chitr and Gupt, and the account with the Messenger of Death is totally erased. || 2 || The Saints of the Lord meditate on the Lord in their minds; they join the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. The piercing sun of desires has set, and the cool moon has risen. || 3 || You are the Greatest Being, absolutely unapproachable and unfathomable; You created the Universe from Your Own Being. Dhanasree third Mahal : O brother! The name of God is of astonishing power. (But this name) the Lord Himself makes it heard (to a fortunate person). In this life full of conflicts, that person attains the name of God who remains in the presence of the Guru. 1. Stay.

O brother! It cannot be told at what price the name of God can be obtained and how powerful this name is. Those people who have fixed their mind on the name of God are the fortunate ones. The person who accepts the advice of the Guru who never gets tired, that person constantly establishes the thought of the qualities of the Lord (within himself). But the Lord gives this thought only to the one on whom He Himself bestows. 1.

O brother! We do every work of our lives only with the support of ego, (so when we think about it in our) mind (with wheat), then because of this ego, we are completely foolish. This ego can be removed (from within us) only by the grace of the Guru. (The Guru also unites) him on whom the Lord Himself bestows His grace. 2.

(O brother! This worldly wealth of Maya (creates) great ego (in the mind of man). And, a man who remains immersed in ego does not attain respect (in the presence of the Lord). O brother! Leaving aside ego, one always remains in spiritual bliss. O brother! I, taking the advice of the Guru, keep praising and glorifying that ever-lasting Lord. 3.

O brother! That Creator Himself creates (the entire creation); apart from Him there is no other (with such a state). The man whom the Creator connects (with His) ever-lasting Name, that man appears (in the remembrance of the Name). O Nanak! The person who meditates on the Name always remains in spiritual bliss (both in this world and) in the next world. 4.8. 

ਧਨਾਸਰੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥ ਨਾਵੈ ਕੀ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਮਿਤਿ ਕਹੀ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥ ਸੇ ਜਨ ਧੰਨੁ ਜਿਨ ਇਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਸਾਚੀ ਸਾਚਾ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥ ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸੇ ਦੇ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥੧॥ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਚਰਜੁ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਪਿ ਸੁਣਾਏ ॥ ਕਲੀ ਕਾਲ ਵਿਚਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਏ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ ਹਮ ਮੂਰਖ ਮੂਰਖ ਮਨ ਮਾਹਿ ॥ ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਸਭ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਹਿ ॥ ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਹੰਉਮੈ ਜਾਇ ॥ ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸੇ ਲਏ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥੨॥ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਕਾ ਧਨੁ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ॥ ਅਹੰਕਾਰਿ ਡੂਬੈ ਨ ਪਾਵੈ ਮਾਨੁ ॥ ਆਪੁ ਛੋਡਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਈ ॥ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ਸਚੁ ਸੋਈ ॥੩॥ ਆਪੇ ਸਾਜੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਸੋਇ ॥ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਦੂਜਾ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥ ਜਿਸੁ ਸਚਿ ਲਾਏ ਸੋਈ ਲਾਗੈ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਆਗੈ ॥੪॥੮॥ 

ਅਰਥ: ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੈਰਾਨ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੀ ਤਾਕਤ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ। (ਪਰ ਇਹ ਨਾਮ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਕਿਸੇ ਵਡ-ਭਾਗੀ ਨੂੰ) ਸੁਣਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਝਗੜਿਆਂ-ਭਰੇ ਜੀਵਨ-ਸਮੇ ਵਿਚ ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਇਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਕਿ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਕਿਸ ਮੁੱਲ ਤੋਂ ਮਿਲ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਇਹ ਨਾਮ ਕਿਤਨੀ ਤਾਕਤ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ। ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਜੋੜੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਹਨ। ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਕਦੇ ਉਕਾਈ ਨਾਹ ਖਾਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਗ੍ਰਹਣ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੀ ਵਿਚਾਰ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਵਸਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਪਰ ਇਹ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਉਤੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।੧।

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਅਸੀ ਜੀਵ (ਆਪਣਾ) ਹਰੇਕ ਕੰਮ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੇ ਆਸਰੇ ਹੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਾਂ, (ਸੋ ਜੋ ਅਸੀ ਆਪਣੇ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ (ਗਹੁ ਨਾਲ ਵਿਚਾਰੀਏ ਤਾਂ ਇਸ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ) ਅਸੀ ਨਿਰੋਲ ਮੂਰਖ ਹਾਂ। ਇਹ ਹਉਮੈ (ਸਾਡੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ। (ਗੁਰੂ ਭੀ ਉਸੇ ਨੂੰ) ਮਿਲਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਉਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।੨।

(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਇਹ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਵਾਲਾ) ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਧਨ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ) ਬੜਾ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ (ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ) । ਤੇ, ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਡੁੱਬਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ) ਆਦਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਂਦਾ। ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਆਪਾ-ਭਾਵ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਸਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮੈਂ ਤਾਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ।੩।

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਉਹ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਸਾਰੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਨੂੰ) ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ (ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹੀ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਵਾਲਾ) ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ (ਆਪਣੇ) ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਨਾਮ-ਸਿਮਰਨ ਵਿਚ) ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਇਸ ਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਭੀ, ਤੇ) ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਭੀ।੪।੮।
