ਸੋਰਠਿ ਮਹਲਾ ੪ ॥ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਅੰਤਰੁ ਮਨੁ ਬੇਧਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਰਹਣੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥ ਜਿਉ ਮਛੁਲੀ ਬਿਨੁ ਨੀਰੈ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਤਿਉ ਨਾਮੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਮਰਿ ਜਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਜਲੁ ਦੇਵਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਈ ॥ ਹਉ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੰਗਾ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਨਾਮੇ ਹੀ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਪਾਈ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ ਜਿਉ ਚਾਤ੍ਰਿਕੁ ਜਲ ਬਿਨੁ ਬਿਲਲਾਵੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਜਲ ਪਿਆਸ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਲੁ ਪਾਵੈ ਸੁਖ ਸਹਜੇ ਹਰਿਆ ਭਾਇ ਸੁਭਾਈ ॥੨॥ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਭੂਖੇ ਦਹ ਦਿਸ ਡੋਲਹਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਈ ॥ ਜਨਮਿ ਮਰੈ ਫਿਰਿ ਜੋਨੀ ਆਵੈ ਦਰਗਹਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਸਜਾਈ ॥੩॥ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰਹਿ ਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਪਾਈ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲ ਭਏ ਹੈ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਸਬਦਿ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥੪॥੮॥

ਅਰਥ: ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ) ਮੇਹਰ ਦਾ ਜਲ ਦੇਹ। ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ ਦੇਹ। ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ (ਹੀ) ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹਾਂ (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਤੇਰੇ) ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਠੰਡ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ।ਰਹਾਉ।

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਹਿਰਦਾ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਵਿੱਝ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਦੀ ਯਾਦ) ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਰਹਿ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ। ਜਿਵੇਂ ਪਾਣੀ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮੱਛੀ ਮਰ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਤਿਵੇਂ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਆਪਣੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਆ ਗਈ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ।੧।

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਵੇਂ ਵਰਖਾ-ਜਲ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਪਪੀਹਾ ਵਿਲਕਦਾ ਹੈ, ਵਰਖਾ ਦੀ ਬੂੰਦ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰੇਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਟਦੀ, ਤਿਵੇਂ ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਨ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਤਦੋਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ-ਜਲ (ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ) ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।੨।

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਭੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਾਰੇ ਹੋਏ ਦਸੀਂ ਪਾਸੀਂ ਡੋਲਦੇ ਫਿਰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਮਨ ਦਾ ਮੁਰੀਦ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਖੁੰਝ ਕੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਜੰਮਦਾ ਹੈ ਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ (ਇਹ) ਸਜ਼ਾ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ।੩।

ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਜੇ ਤੂੰ (ਆਪ) ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰੇਂ, ਤਾਂ ਹੀ ਅਸੀ ਜੀਵ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਗੀਤ ਗਾ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਾਂ। (ਜਿਸ ਉੱਤੇ ਮੇਹਰ ਹੋਵੇ, ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸੁਆਦ ਅਨੁਭਵ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਦੀਨਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉੱਤੇ ਤ੍ਰੁੱਠਦਾ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਉਸ ਦੀ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ) ਤ੍ਰੇਹ ਬੁਝਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।੪।੮।

SORAT’H, FOURTH MEHL:

The inner depths of my mind are pierced by love for the Lord; I cannot live without the Lord. Just as the fish dies without water, I die without the Lord’s Name. || 1 || O my God, please bless me with the water of Your Name. I beg for Your Name, deep within myself, day and night; through the Name, I find peace. || Pause || The song-bird cries out for lack of water — without water, its thirst cannot be quenched. The Gurmukh obtains the water of celestial bliss, and is rejuvenated, blossoming forth through the blessed Love of the Lord. || 2 || The self-willed manmukhs are hungry, wandering around in the ten directions; without the Name, they suffer in pain. They are born, only to die, and enter into reincarnation again; in the Court of the Lord, they are punished. || 3 || But if the Lord shows His Mercy, then one comes to sing His Glorious Praises; deep within the nucleus of his own self, he finds the sublime essence of the Lord’s elixir. The Lord has become Merciful to meek Nanak, and through the Word of the Shabad, his desires are quenched. || 4 || 8 ||

ਦੇਵਗੰਧਾਰੀ ੫ ॥ ਮਾਈ ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੇ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਵੈ ॥ ਸਫਲ ਆਇਆ ਜੀਵਨ ਫਲੁ ਤਾ ਕੋ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਵੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ ਸੁੰਦਰੁ ਸੁਘੜੁ ਸੂਰੁ ਸੋ ਬੇਤਾ ਜੋ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥ ਨਾਮੁ ਉਚਾਰੁ ਕਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਰਸਨਾ ਬਹੁੜਿ ਨ ਜੋਨੀ ਧਾਵੈ ॥੧॥ ਪੂਰਨ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਰਵਿਆ ਮਨ ਤਨ ਮਹਿ ਆਨ ਨ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟੀ ਆਵੈ ॥ ਨਰਕ ਰੋਗ ਨਹੀ ਹੋਵਤ ਜਨ ਸੰਗਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਸੁ ਲੜਿ ਲਾਵੈ ॥੨॥੧੪॥

ਅਰਥ: ਹੇ ਮਾਂ! ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਬਣਾਈ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਆਉਣਾ ਕਾਮਯਾਬ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦਾ ਫਲ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।

ਹੇ ਮਾਂ! ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸਾਥ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਸੁਚੱਜਾ ਸੂਰਮਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਆਪਣੀ ਜੀਭ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਉਚਾਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ, ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਭਟਕਦਾ।੧।

ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਆਖ-) ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਲੜ ਲਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਨਰਕ ਤੇ ਰੋਗ ਨਹੀਂ ਵਿਆਪਦੇ, ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ (ਕਿਤੇ ਭੀ) ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ।੨।੧੪।

O mother! The human being who keeps on praising the qualities of God, keeps love at the feet of God, succeeds in coming into the world, he gets the reward of life.

O mother! The human being who gets the support of Guru, that human being becomes a beautiful warrior with a beautiful life, he keeps on uttering God's name with his tongue, and does not wander in the jungles again and again.

O Nanak! Say-) The human being whom God puts in the fight of Sant Jan, he is not afflicted with hell and disease in

ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

ਮੇਰੈ ਹੀਅਰੈ ਰਤਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਰਿ ਬਸਿਆ ਗੁਰਿ ਹਾਥੁ ਧਰਿਓ ਮੇਰੈ ਮਾਥਾ ॥ ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਕੇ ਕਿਲਬਿਖ ਦੁਖ ਉਤਰੇ ਗੁਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੀਓ ਰਿਨੁ ਲਾਥਾ ॥੧॥ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਭਜੁ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਭਿ ਅਰਥਾ ॥ ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਇਆ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਜੀਵਨੁ ਬਿਰਥਾ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਮੂੜ ਭਏ ਹੈ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਤੇ ਮੋਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਨਿਤ ਫਾਥਾ ॥ ਤਿਨ ਸਾਧੂ ਚਰਣ ਨ ਸੇਵੇ ਕਬਹੂ ਤਿਨ ਸਭੁ ਜਨਮੁ ਅਕਾਥਾ ॥੨॥ ਜਿਨ ਸਾਧੂ ਚਰਣ ਸਾਧ ਪਗ ਸੇਵੇ ਤਿਨ ਸਫਲਿਓ ਜਨਮੁ ਸਨਾਥਾ ॥ ਮੋ ਕਉ ਕੀਜੈ ਦਾਸੁ ਦਾਸ ਦਾਸਨ ਕੋ ਹਰਿ ਦਇਆ ਧਾਰਿ ਜਗੰਨਾਥਾ ॥੩॥ ਹਮ ਅੰਧੁਲੇ ਗਿਆਨਹੀਨ ਅਗਿਆਨੀ ਕਿਉ ਚਾਲਹ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਪੰਥਾ ॥ ਹਮ ਅੰਧੁਲੇ ਕਉ ਗੁਰ ਅੰਚਲੁ ਦੀਜੈ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਚਲਹ ਮਿਲੰਥਾ ॥੪॥੧॥

ਅਰਥ: ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਸਦਾ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ਕਰ, (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ) ਸਾਰੇ ਪਦਾਰਥ (ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ) । (ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆ ਰਹੁ) ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ (ਹੀ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ (ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ) ਪੱਕਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ। ਤੇ, ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਚਲੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।ਰਹਾਉ।

(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਦੋਂ) ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਿਰ ਉੱਤੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਹੱਥ ਰੱਖਿਆ, ਤਾਂ ਮੇਰੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਰਤਨ (ਵਰਗਾ ਕੀਮਤੀ) ਨਾਮ ਆ ਵੱਸਿਆ। (ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਭੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ) ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਦਿੱਤਾ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜਨਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਾਪ ਦੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਗਏ, (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਿਰੋਂ ਪਾਪਾਂ ਦਾ) ਕਰਜ਼ਾ ਉਤਰ ਗਿਆ।੧।

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ (ਦੀ ਸਰਨ) ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮੂਰਖ ਹੋਏ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਕਦੇ ਭੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਲਿਆ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਾਰਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਚਲਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।੨।

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਓਟ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਖਸਮ ਵਾਲੇ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਕਾਮਯਾਬ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਹੇ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਨਾਥ! ਮੇਰੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਦਾਸਾਂ ਦੇ ਦਾਸਾਂ ਦਾ ਦਾਸ ਬਣਾ ਲੈ।੩।

ਹੇ ਗੁਰੂ! ਅਸੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਚ ਅੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਹੋ ਰਹੇ ਹਾਂ, ਅਸੀਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ ਤੋਂ ਸੱਖਣੇ ਹਾਂ, ਸਾਨੂੰ ਸਹੀ ਜੀਵਨ-ਜੁਗਤਿ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ, ਅਸੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਦੱਸੇ ਹੋਏ ਜੀਵਨ-ਰਾਹ ਉੱਤੇ ਤੁਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੇ। ਹੇ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ-) ਹੇ ਗੁਰੂ! ਸਾਨੂੰ ਅੰਨਿ੍ਹਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਪੱਲਾ ਫੜਾ, ਤਾਂ ਕਿ ਤੇਰੇ ਪੱਲੇ ਲੱਗ ਕੇ ਅਸੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਦੱਸੇ ਹੋਏ ਰਸਤੇ ਉਤੇ ਤੁਰ ਸਕੀਏ।੪।੧।

ONE UNIVERSAL CREATOR GOD. BY THE GRACE OF THE TRUE GURU:

The Jewel of the Lord’s Name abides within my heart; the Guru has placed His hand on my forehead. The sins and pains of countless incarnations have been cast out. The Guru has blessed me with the Naam, the Name of the Lord, and my debt has been paid off. || 1 || O my mind, vibrate the Lord’s Name, and all your affairs shall be resolved. The Perfect Guru has implanted the Lord’s Name within me; without the Name, life is useless. || Pause || Without the Guru, the self-willed manmukhs are foolish and ignorant; they are forever entangled in emotional attachment to Maya. They never serve the feet of the Holy; their lives are totally useless. || 2 || Those who serve at the feet of the Holy, the feet of the Holy, their lives are made fruitful, and they belong to the Lord. Make me the slave of the slave of the slaves of the Lord; bless me with Your Mercy, O Lord of the Universe. || 3 || I am blind, ignorant and totally without wisdom; how can I walk on the Path? I am blind — O Guru, please let me grasp the hem of Your robe, so that servant Nanak may walk in harmony with You. || 4 || 1 |

ਸਲੋਕੁ ਮਃ ੩ ॥ ਪੂਰਬਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਕਮਾਵਣਾ ਜਿ ਕਰਤੈ ਆਪਿ ਲਿਖਿਆਸੁ ॥ ਮੋਹ ਠਗਉਲੀ ਪਾਈਅਨੁ ਵਿਸਰਿਆ ਗੁਣਤਾਸੁ ॥

(ਪਿਛਲੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ) ਮੁੱਢ ਤੋਂ ਜੋ (ਸੰਸਕਾਰ-ਰੂਪ ਲੇਖ) ਲਿਖਿਆ (ਭਾਵ, ਉੱਕਰਿਆ) ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਜੋ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਲਿਖ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ (ਜ਼ਰੂਰ) ਕਮਾਉਣਾ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ; (ਉਸ ਲੇਖ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਹੀ) ਮੋਹ ਦੀ ਠਗਬੂਟੀ (ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ) ਮਿਲ ਗਈ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਹਰੀ ਵਿੱਸਰ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।

ਮਤੁ ਜਾਣਹੁ ਜਗੁ ਜੀਵਦਾ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਮੁਇਆਸੁ ॥ ਜਿਨੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਚੇਤਿਓ ਸੇ ਬਹਣਿ ਨ ਮਿਲਨੀ ਪਾਸਿ ॥ (ਉਸ) ਸੰਸਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਜੀਊਂਦਾ ਨਾ ਸਮਝੋ (ਜੋ) ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਮੁਇਆ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ; ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਨਾਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਕੋਲ ਬਹਿਣਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ।

ਦੁਖੁ ਲਾਗਾ ਬਹੁ ਅਤਿ ਘਣਾ ਪੁਤੁ ਕਲਤੁ ਨ ਸਾਥਿ ਕੋਈ ਜਾਸਿ ॥ ਲੋਕਾ ਵਿਚਿ ਮੁਹੁ ਕਾਲਾ ਹੋਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਉਭੇ ਸਾਸ ॥ ਮਨਮੁਖਾ ਨੋ ਕੋ ਨ ਵਿਸਹੀ ਚੁਕਿ ਗਇਆ ਵੇਸਾਸੁ ॥ ਉਹ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਬਹੁਤ ਹੀ ਦੁੱਖੀ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਮੁਏ ਪਏ ਸਨ, ਉਹ) ਪੁੱਤ੍ਰ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਤਾਂ ਕੋਈ ਨਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਏਗਾ; ਸੰਸਾਰ ਦੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਭੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਮੂੰਹ ਕਾਲਾ ਹੋਇਆ (ਭਾਵ, ਸ਼ਰਮਿੰਦੇ ਹੋਏ) ਤੇ ਹਾਹੁਕੇ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ; ਮਨਮੁਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਵਿਸਾਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਇਤਬਾਰ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾ ਨੋ ਸੁਖੁ ਅਗਲਾ ਜਿਨਾ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਨਿਵਾਸੁ ॥੧॥ ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਬਹੁਤ ਸੁਖ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।੧।

ਮਃ ੩ ॥ ਸੇ ਸੈਣ ਸੇ ਸਜਣਾ ਜਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਿਲਹਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਭਾਣਾ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਕਰਹਿ ਸੇ ਸਚਿ ਰਹੇ ਸਮਾਇ ॥ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਹੋਏ ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਆਪਾ ਨਿਵਾਰ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਭਾਵਿਕ ਹੀ) ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਭਲੇ ਲੋਕ ਹਨ ਤੇ (ਸਾਡੇ) ਸਾਥੀ ਹਨ; ਜੋ ਸਦਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਭਾਣਾ ਮੰਨਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਸੱਚੇ ਹਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਸਮਾਏ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।

ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਲਗੇ ਸਜਣ ਨ ਆਖੀਅਹਿ ਜਿ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ਕਰਹਿ ਵੇਕਾਰ ॥ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਤ ਜਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਖੀਦਾ ਜੋ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਲੱਗੇ ਹੋਏ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਤੇ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।

ਮਨਮੁਖ ਆਪ ਸੁਆਰਥੀ ਕਾਰਜੁ ਨ ਸਕਹਿ ਸਵਾਰਿ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਪੂਰਬਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਕਮਾਵਣਾ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਮੇਟਣਹਾਰੁ ॥੨॥ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਤਲਬ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ (ਹੋਣ ਕਰ ਕੇ) ਕਿਸੇ ਦਾ ਕੰਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਵਾਰ ਸਕਦੇ; (ਪਰ) ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਿਰ ਕੀਹ ਦੋਸ਼?) (ਪਿਛਲੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ) ਮੁੱਢ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਕਰਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ (ਸੰਸਕਾਰ-ਰੂਪ ਲੇਖ) ਕਮਾਉਣਾ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕੋਈ ਮਿਟਾਉਣ-ਜੋਗਾ ਨਹੀਂ।੧।

ਪਉੜੀ ॥ ਤੁਧੁ ਆਪੇ ਜਗਤੁ ਉਪਾਇ ਕੈ ਆਪਿ ਖੇਲੁ ਰਚਾਇਆ ॥ ਤ੍ਰੈ ਗੁਣ ਆਪਿ ਸਿਰਜਿਆ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਵਧਾਇਆ ॥

ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਰਚ ਕੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਖੇਡ ਬਣਾਈ ਹੈ; ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ) ਤਿੰਨ ਗੁਣ ਬਣਾਏ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ (ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ) ਵਧਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ।

ਵਿਚਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਲੇਖਾ ਮੰਗੀਐ ਫਿਰਿ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇਆ ॥ ਜਿਨਾ ਹਰਿ ਆਪਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਸੇ ਗੁਰਿ ਸਮਝਾਇਆ ॥ (ਇਸ ਮੋਹ ਤੋਂ ਉਪਜੇ) ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਵਿਚ (ਲੱਗਿਆਂ) (ਦਰਗਾਹ ਵਿਚ) ਲੇਖਾ ਮੰਗੀਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਫਿਰ ਜੰਮਣਾ ਮਰਨਾ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ; ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਤੇ ਹਰੀ ਆਪ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ (ਇਹ) ਸਮਝ ਪਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ।

ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ਗੁਰ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਘੁਮਾਇਆ ॥੩॥

(ਇਸ ਕਰਕੇ) ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਹਾਂ ਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਵਾਰਨੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ।੩।

SHALOK, THIRD MEHL:

He acts according to pre-ordained destiny, written by the Creator Himself. Emotional attachment has drugged him, and he has forgotten the Lord, the treasure of virtue. Don’t think that he is alive in the world — he is dead, through the love of duality. Those who do not meditate on the Lord, as Gurmukh, are not permitted to sit near the Lord. They suffer the most horrible pain and suffering, and neither their sons nor their wives go along with them. Their faces are blackened among men, and they sigh in deep regret. No one places any reliance in the self-willed manmukhs; trust in them is lost. O Nanak, the Gurmukhs live in absolute peace; the Naam, the Name of the Lord, abides within them. || 1 || THIRD MEHL: They alone are relatives, and they alone are friends, who, as Gurmukh, join together in love. Night and day, they act according to the True Guru’s Will; they remain absorbed in the True Name. Those who are attached to the love of duality are not called friends; they practice egotism and corruption. The self-willed manmukhs are selfish; they cannot resolve anyone’s affairs. O Nanak, they act according to their pre-ordained destiny; no one can erase it. || 2 || PAUREE: You Yourself created the world, and You Yourself arranged the play of it. You Yourself created the three qualities, and fostered emotional attachment to Maya. He is called to account for his deeds done in egotism; he continues coming and going in reincarnation. The Guru instructs those whom the Lord Himself blesses with Grace. I am a sacrifice to my Guru; forever and ever, I am a sacrifice to Him. || 3||

ਸੋਰਠਿ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥ ਤੂ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦਾਤਾ ਦਾਨਿ ਮਤਿ ਪੂਰਾ ਹਮ ਥਾਰੇ ਭੇਖਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ॥ ਮੈ ਕਿਆ ਮਾਗਉ ਕਿਛੁ ਥਿਰੁ ਨ ਰਹਾਈ ਹਰਿ ਦੀਜੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਿਆਰੀ ਜੀਉ ॥੧॥ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਬਨਵਾਰੀ ॥ ਜਲਿ ਥਲਿ ਮਹੀਅਲਿ ਗੁਪਤੋ ਵਰਤੈ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਦੇਖਿ ਨਿਹਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ ਮਰਤ ਪਇਆਲ ਅਕਾਸੁ ਦਿਖਾਇਓ ਗੁਰਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ॥ ਸੋ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਅਜੋਨੀ ਹੈ ਭੀ ਹੋਨੀ ਘਟ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਦੇਖੁ ਮੁਰਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ॥੨॥ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਕਉ ਇਹੁ ਜਗੁ ਬਪੁੜੋ ਇਨਿ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਗਤਿ ਵਿਸਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ॥ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਤ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਸਾਕਤ ਬਾਜੀ ਹਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ॥੩॥ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਬੰਧਨ ਤੋੜਿ ਨਿਰਾਰੇ ਬਹੁੜਿ ਨ ਗਰਭ ਮਝਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਗਿਆਨ ਰਤਨੁ ਪਰਗਾਸਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ॥੪॥੮॥

ਅਰਥ: ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ! ਤੂੰ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਸਭ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ, ਦਾਤਾਂ ਦੇਣ ਵਿਚ ਤੂੰ ਕਦੇ ਖੁੰਝਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ, ਅਸੀ ਤੇਰੇ (ਦਰ ਦੇ) ਮੰਗਤੇ ਹਾਂ। ਮੈਂ ਤੈਥੋਂ ਕੇਹੜੀ ਸ਼ੈ ਮੰਗਾਂ? ਕੋਈ ਸ਼ੈ ਸਦਾ ਟਿਕੀ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਨਹੀਂ। (ਹਾਂ, ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ) ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਨਾਮ ਦੇਹ, ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰਾਂ।੧।

ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹਰੇਕ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ। ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ ਧਰਤੀ ਵਿਚ, ਧਰਤੀ ਦੇ ਉਪਰ ਆਕਾਸ਼ ਵਿਚ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ ਪਰ ਲੁਕਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ। (ਹੇ ਮਨ!) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ।ਰਹਾਉ।

(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉੱਤੇ) ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਧਰਤੀ ਆਕਾਸ਼ ਪਾਤਾਲ (ਸਾਰਾ ਜਗਤ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਹੋਂਦ ਨਾਲ ਭਰਪੂਰ) ਵਿਖਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦਾ, ਹੁਣ ਭੀ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ ਅਗਾਂਹ ਨੂੰ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਰਹੇਗਾ, (ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ (ਵੱਸਦਾ) ਵੇਖ।੨।

ਇਹ ਭਾਗ-ਹੀਣ ਜਗਤ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਗੇੜ ਸਹੇੜ ਬੈਠਾ ਹੈ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਇਸ ਨੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਭੁਲਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ। ਜੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪਏ ਤਾਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਤੇ ਤੁਰਿਆਂ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ) ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਮਾਇਆ-ਵੇੜ੍ਹੇ ਜੀਵ (ਭਗਤੀ ਤੋਂ ਖੁੰਝ ਕੇ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਦੀ) ਬਾਜ਼ੀ ਹਾਰ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।੩।

ਹੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ! ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਬੰਧਨ ਤੋੜ ਕੇ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਮਾਇਆ ਤੋਂ ਨਿਰਲੇਪ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਉਹ ਮੁੜ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦਾ। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ) ਗਿਆਨ ਦਾ ਰਤਨ ਚਮਕ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਹਰੀ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ (ਆਪ) ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ।੪।੮।

SORAT’H, FIRST MEHL:

You, God, are the Giver of gifts, the Lord of perfect understanding; I am a mere beggar at Your Door. What should I beg for? Nothing remains permanent; O Lord, please, bless me with Your Beloved Name. || 1 || In each and every heart, the Lord, the Lord of the forest, is permeating and pervading. In the water, on the land, and in the sky, He is pervading but hidden; through the Word of the Guru’s Shabad, He is revealed. || Pause || In this world, in the nether regions of the underworld, and in the Akaashic Ethers, the Guru, the True Guru, has shown me the Lord; He has showered me with His Mercy. He is the unborn Lord God; He is, and shall ever be. Deep within your heart, behold Him, the Destroyer of ego. || 2 || This wretched world is caught in birth and death; in the love of duality, it has forgotten devotional worship of the Lord. Meeting the True Guru, the Guru’s Teachings are obtained; the faithless cynic loses the game of life. || 3 || Breaking my bonds, the True Guru has set me free, and I shall not be cast into the womb of reincarnation again. O Nanak, the jewel of spiritual wisdom shines forth, and the Lord, the Formless Lord, dwells within my mind. || 4 || 8 ||

ਅਰਥ: ਹੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋ! ਮੇਰੀ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਸੁਣੋ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਦੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ) ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਬੰਧਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਕਿਸੇ ਦੀ ਭੀ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ।ਰਹਾਉ।

ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਜੀਵਨ ਨੂੰ) ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ (ਹਰਿ-ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੇ) ਕੰਮ ਕਰਿਆ ਕਰ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਣ ਲਈ ਜਹਾਜ਼ ਹੈ। (ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ) ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰੇ ਜੰਜਾਲ ਤੇਰੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਭੀ ਕੰਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਣਗੇ। ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼-ਰੂਪ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਹੀ (ਅਸਲ) ਜੀਵਨ ਹੈ-ਇਹ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ।੧।

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਉਸ (ਧਨ-ਪਦਾਰਥ) ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ, ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਕੋਈ ਪਾਂਇਆਂ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ। ਉਹ (ਧਨ-ਪਦਾਰਥ) ਅਖ਼ੀਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਨਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦਾ। ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਤੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ਕਰ। ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ (ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਕਰਿਆ ਕਰ) , ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਹਨਾਂ (ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ) ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਤੇਰੇ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ) ਬੰਧਨ ਮੁੱਕ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਨ।੨।

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਫੜ, (ਆਪਣੇ) ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ) ਕੋਮਲ ਚਰਨ (ਵਸਾ) (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ) ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਦੀ ਆਸ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ, ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਆਸਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਢੂੰਢਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਭਗਤ ਹੈ, ਉਹੀ ਗਿਆਨਵਾਨ ਹੈ, ਉਹੀ ਸੁਰਤਿ-ਅਭਿਆਸੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹੀ ਤਪਸ੍ਵੀ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਉਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।੩।੧।੨੯।

Worship and adore the Lord with your mind and body, O Beloved Saint of the Lord; in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, you shall be released from bondage. || 2 || In your heart, hold fast to the Sanctuary of the lotus feet of the Supreme Lord God; do not place your hopes in any other support. ਸੋਰਠਿ ਮਹਲਾ ੯ ॥ ਇਹ ਜਗਿ ਮੀਤੁ ਨ ਦੇਖਿਓ ਕੋਈ ॥ ਸਗਲ ਜਗਤੁ ਅਪਨੈ ਸੁਖਿ ਲਾਗਿਓ ਦੁਖ ਮੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ ਦਾਰਾ ਮੀਤ ਪੂਤ ਸਨਬੰਧੀ ਸਗਰੇ ਧਨ ਸਿਉ ਲਾਗੇ ॥ ਜਬ ਹੀ ਨਿਰਧਨ ਦੇਖਿਓ ਨਰ ਕਉ ਸੰਗੁ ਛਾਡਿ ਸਭ ਭਾਗੇ ॥੧॥ ਕਹਂਉ ਕਹਾ ਯਿਆ ਮਨ ਬਉਰੇ ਕਉ ਇਨ ਸਿਉ ਨੇਹੁ ਲਗਾਇਓ ॥ ਦੀਨਾ ਨਾਥ ਸਕਲ ਭੈ ਭੰਜਨ ਜਸੁ ਤਾ ਕੋ ਬਿਸਰਾਇਓ ॥੨॥ ਸੁਆਨ ਪੂਛ ਜਿਉ ਭਇਓ ਨ ਸੂਧਉ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਜਤਨੁ ਮੈ ਕੀਨਉ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਲਾਜ ਬਿਰਦ ਕੀ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਤੁਹਾਰਉ ਲੀਨਉ ॥੩॥੯॥

ਅਰਥ: ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਇਸ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਕੋਈ (ਤੋੜ ਸਾਥ ਨਿਬਾਹੁਣ ਵਾਲਾ) ਮਿੱਤਰ (ਮੈਂ) ਨਹੀਂ ਵੇਖਿਆ। ਸਾਰਾ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੁਖ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਜੁੱਟਾ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ। ਦੁੱਖ ਵਿਚ (ਕੋਈ ਕਿਸੇ ਦੇ) ਨਾਲ (ਸਾਥੀ) ਨਹੀਂ ਬਣਦਾ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ, ਮਿੱਤਰ, ਪੁੱਤਰ, ਰਿਸ਼ਤੇਦਾਰ-ਇਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਧਨ ਨਾਲ (ਹੀ) ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਜਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਕੰਗਾਲ ਵੇਖਿਆ, (ਤਦੋਂ) ਸਾਥ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਨੱਸ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।੧।

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮੈਂ ਇਸ ਝੱਲੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਕੀਹ ਸਮਝਾਵਾਂ? (ਇਸ ਨੇ) ਇਹਨਾਂ (ਕੱਚੇ ਸਾਥੀਆਂ) ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਪਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ। (ਜੇਹੜਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ) ਗਰੀਬਾਂ ਦਾ ਰਾਖਾ ਤੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਡਰ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ (ਇਸ ਨੇ) ਭੁਲਾਈ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ।੨।

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕੁੱਤੇ ਦੀ ਪੂਛਲ ਸਿੱਧੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ (ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਇਸ ਮਨ ਦੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਯਾਦ ਵਲੋਂ ਲਾ-ਪਰਵਾਹੀ ਹਟਦੀ ਨਹੀਂ) ਮੈਂ ਬਹੁਤ ਜਤਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਆਖ-ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਆਪਣੇ) ਮੁੱਢ-ਕਦੀਮਾਂ ਦੇ (ਪਿਆਰ ਵਾਲੇ) ਸੁਭਾਵ ਦੀ ਲਾਜ ਰੱਖ (ਮੇਰੀ ਮਦਦ ਕਰ, ਤਾਂ ਹੀ) ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪ ਸਕਦਾ ਹਾਂ।੩।੯।

SORAT’H, NINTH MEHL:

In this world, I have not found any true friend. The whole world is attached to its own pleasures, and when trouble comes, no one is with you. || 1 || Pause || Wives, friends, children and relatives — all are attached to wealth. When they see a poor man, they all forsake his company and run away. || 1 || So what should I say to this crazy mind, which is affectionately attached to them? The Lord is the Master of the meek, the Destroyer of all fears, and I have forgotten to praise Him. || 2 || Like a dog’s tail, which will never straighten out, the mind will not change, no matter how many things are tried. Says Nanak, please, Lord, uphold the honor of Your innate nature; I chant Your Name. || 3 || 9 ||

ਸਾਵਣਿ ਸਰਸੀ ਕਾਮਣੀ ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਸਿਉ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਰਤਾ ਸਚ ਰੰਗਿ ਇਕੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਧਾਰੁ ॥ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਰੰਗ ਕੂੜਾਵਿਆ ਦਿਸਨਿ ਸਭੇ ਛਾਰੁ ॥ ਹਰਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਬੂੰਦ ਸੁਹਾਵਣੀ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਪੀਵਣਹਾਰੁ ॥ ਵਣੁ ਤਿਣੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸੰਗਿ ਮਉਲਿਆ ਸੰਮ੍ਰਥ ਪੁਰਖ ਅਪਾਰੁ ॥ ਹਰਿ ਮਿਲਣੈ ਨੋ ਮਨੁ ਲੋਚਦਾ ਕਰਮਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਹਾਰੁ ॥ ਜਿਨੀ ਸਖੀਏ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਹੰਉ ਤਿਨ ਕੈ ਸਦ ਬਲਿਹਾਰ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਜੀ ਮਇਆ ਕਰਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਵਾਰਣਹਾਰੁ ॥ ਸਾਵਣੁ ਤਿਨਾ ਸੁਹਾਗਣੀ ਜਿਨ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਉਰਿ ਹਾਰੁ ॥੬॥

ਅਰਥ: ਜਿਵੇਂ ਸਾਵਣ ਵਿਚ (ਵਰਖਾ ਨਾਲ ਬਨਸਪਤੀ ਹਰਿਆਵਲੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਤਿਵੇਂ ਉਹ) ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਹਰਿਆਵਲੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਉਸ ਜੀਵ ਦਾ ਹਿਰਦਾ ਖਿੜ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ) ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਸੁਹਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਤਨ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ (ਉਸ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦਾ) ਆਸਰਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਨਾਸਵੰਤ ਕੌਤਕ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਆਹ (ਨਿਕੰਮੇ) ਦਿਸਦੇ ਹਨ। (ਸਾਵਣ ਵਿਚ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਵਰਖਾ ਦੀ ਬੂੰਦ ਸੋਹਣੀ ਲੱਗਦੀ ਹੈ, ਤਿਵੇਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਵਾਲੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਨੂੰ) ਹਰੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਬੂੰਦ ਪਿਆਰੀ ਲੱਗਦੀ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਸ ਬੂੰਦ ਨੂੰ ਪੀਣ ਜੋਗਾ ਹੋ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਦੀਆਂ ਨਿੱਕੀਆਂ ਨਿੱਕੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਭੀ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਿੱਠੀਆਂ ਲੱਗਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ, ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਬੜੇ ਸ਼ੌਕ ਨਾਲ ਸੁਣਦਾ ਹੈ) ।

ਜਿਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਮੇਲ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਰਾ ਜਗਤ (ਬਨਸਪਤੀ ਆਦਿਕ) ਹਰਿਆ-ਭਰਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਕਰਨ ਜੋਗਾ ਹੈ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਣ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਭੀ ਤਾਂਘਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਪਣੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾਣ ਦੇ ਸਮਰੱਥ ਹੈ। ਮੈਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਸਹੇਲੀਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਹਾਂ, ਸਦਾ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਹਾਂ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ।

ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰ ਤੇ ਆਖ–) ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੇਰੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ, ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ (ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦ ਨੂੰ) ਸਵਾਰਨ ਜੋਗਾ ਹੈਂ।

ਸਾਵਣ ਦਾ ਮਹੀਨਾ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੀਆਂ (ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀਆਂ) ਵਾਸਤੇ (ਖੇੜਾ ਤੇ ਠੰਡ ਲਿਆਉਣ ਵਾਲਾ) ਹੈ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ (ਰੂਪ ਗਲ) ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ (-ਰੂਪ) ਹਾਰ ਪਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।6।

In the month of Saawan, the soul-bride is happy, if she falls in love with the Lotus Feet of the Lord.

Her mind and body are imbued with the Love of the True One; His Name is her only Support.

The pleasures of corruption are false. All that is seen shall turn to ashes.

The drops of the Lord's Nectar are so beautiful! Meeting the Holy Saint, we drink these in.

The forests and the meadows are rejuvenated and refreshed with the Love of God, the All-powerful, Infinite Primal Being.

My mind yearns to meet the Lord. If only He would show His Mercy, and unite me with Himself!

Those brides who have obtained God-I am forever a sacrifice to them.

O Nanak, when the Dear Lord shows kindness, He adorns His bride with the Word of His Shabad.

Saawan is delightful for those happy soul-brides whose hearts are adorned with the Necklace of the Lord's Name. ||6||

ਸੋਰਠਿ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥ ਰਾਜਨ ਮਹਿ ਰਾਜਾ ਉਰਝਾਇਓ ਮਾਨਨ ਮਹਿ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੀ ॥ ਲੋਭਨ ਮਹਿ ਲੋਭੀ ਲੋਭਾਇਓ ਤਿਉ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਚੇ ਗਿਆਨੀ ॥੧॥ ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਕਉ ਇਹੀ ਸੁਹਾਵੈ ॥ ਪੇਖਿ ਨਿਕਟਿ ਕਰਿ ਸੇਵਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਨਿ ਹੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਾਵੈ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ ਅਮਲਨ ਸਿਉ ਅਮਲੀ ਲਪਟਾਇਓ ਭੂਮਨ ਭੂਮਿ ਪਿਆਰੀ ॥ ਖੀਰ ਸੰਗਿ ਬਾਰਿਕੁ ਹੈ ਲੀਨਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸੰਤ ਐਸੇ ਹਿਤਕਾਰੀ ॥੨॥ ਬਿਦਿਆ ਮਹਿ ਬਿਦੁਅੰਸੀ ਰਚਿਆ ਨੈਨ ਦੇਖਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਹਿ ॥ ਜੈਸੇ ਰਸਨਾ ਸਾਦਿ ਲੁਭਾਨੀ ਤਿਉ ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹਿ ॥੩॥ ਜੈਸੀ ਭੂਖ ਤੈਸੀ ਕਾ ਪੂਰਕੁ ਸਗਲ ਘਟਾ ਕਾ ਸੁਆਮੀ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਪਿਆਸ ਲਗੀ ਦਰਸਨ ਕੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ॥੪॥੫॥੧੬॥

ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਭਗਤ ਨੂੰ ਇਹੀ ਕਾਰ ਚੰਗੀ ਲੱਗਦੀ ਹੈ। (ਭਗਤ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ) ਅੰਗ-ਸੰਗ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ, ਤੇ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।ਰਹਾਉ।

(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਵੇਂ) ਰਾਜ ਦੇ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਰਾਜਾ ਮਗਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਵੇਂ ਮਾਣ ਵਧਾਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਆਦਰ-ਮਾਣ ਦਾ ਭੁੱਖਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਚਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਵੇਂ ਲਾਲਚੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਲਾਲਚ ਵਧਾਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਆਹਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਿਵੇਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।੧।

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਨਸ਼ਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰੇਮੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨਸ਼ਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਚੰਬੜਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜ਼ਮੀਨ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜ਼ਮੀਨ ਪਿਆਰੀ ਲੱਗਦੀ ਹੈ, ਬੱਚਾ ਦੁੱਧ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਚਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਸੰਤ ਜਨ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।੨।

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਵਿਦਵਾਨ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਵਿੱਦਿਆ (ਪੜ੍ਹਨ ਪੜਾਣ) ਵਿਚ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਅੱਖਾਂ (ਪਦਾਰਥ) ਵੇਖ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਸੁਖ ਮਾਣਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ। ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਵੇਂ ਜੀਭ (ਸੁਆਦਲੇ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦੇ) ਸੁਆਦ (ਚੱਖਣ) ਵਿਚ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਤਿਵੇਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਭਗਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।੩।

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸਾਰੇ ਸਰੀਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜਿਹੋ ਜਿਹੀ ਕਿਸੇ ਜੀਵ ਦੀ ਲਾਲਸਾ ਹੋਵੇ ਉਹੋ ਜਿਹੀ ਹੀ ਪੂਰੀ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਦਰਸਨ ਦੀ ਪਿਆਸ ਲੱਗਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਦਿਲ ਦੀ ਜਾਣਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਆਪ) ਆ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।੪।੫।੧੬।

SORAT’H, FIFTH MEHL:

As the king is entangled in kingly affairs, and the egotist in his own egotism, and the greedy man is enticed by greed, so is the spiritually enlightened being absorbed in the Love of the Lord. || 1 || This is what befits the Lord’s servant. Beholding the Lord near at hand, he serves the True Guru, and he is satisfied through the Kirtan of the Lord’s Praises. || Pause || The addict is addicted to his drug, and the landlord is in love with his land. As the baby is attached to his milk, so the Saint is in love with God. || 2 || The scholar is absorbed in scholarship, and the eyes are happy to see. As the tongue savors the tastes, so does the humble servant of the Lord sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord. || 3 || As is the hunger, so is the fulfiller; He is the Lord and Master of all hearts. Nanak thirsts for the Blessed Vision of the Lord’s Darshan; he has met God, the Inner-knower, the Searcher of hearts. || 4 || 5 || 16 ||
