ਸਲੋਕੁ ਮਃ ੩ ॥ ਜਿਨ ਕੰਉ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟਿਆ ਸੇ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਸਦਾ ਕਮਾਹਿ ॥

 ਸਲੋਕੁ ਮਃ ੩ ॥ ਜਿਨ ਕੰਉ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟਿਆ ਸੇ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਸਦਾ ਕਮਾਹਿ ॥ ਅਚਿੰਤੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਤਿਨ ਕੈ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਮਾਹਿ ॥ 

ਅਰਥ: ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਹਰੀ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ; ਚਿੰਤਾ ਤੋਂ ਰਹਿਤ (ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ) ਹਰੀ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਉਹ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸੱਚੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।

ਕੁਲੁ ਉਧਾਰਹਿ ਆਪਣਾ ਮੋਖ ਪਦਵੀ ਆਪੇ ਪਾਹਿ ॥ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਤਿਨ ਕੰਉ ਸੰਤੁਸਟੁ ਭਇਆ ਜੋ ਗੁਰ ਚਰਨੀ ਜਨ ਪਾਹਿ ॥ 

ਅਰਥ: ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੀ ਕੁਲ ਨੂੰ ਤਾਰ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਆਪ ਭੀ ਮੁਕਤੀ ਦਾ ਦਰਜਾ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਚਰਨੀਂ ਲੱਗਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਜਨੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਦਾਸੁ ਹੈ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਹਰਿ ਲਾਜ ਰਖਾਹਿ ॥੧॥ 

ਅਰਥ: ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ (ਭੀ) ਉਸ ਹਰੀ ਦਾ ਦਾਸ ਹੈ, ਹਰੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਆਪਣੇ ਦਾਸ ਦੀ) ਲਾਜ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ।੧।

ਮਃ ੩ ॥ ਹੰਉਮੈ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਖੜਕੁ ਹੈ ਖੜਕੇ ਖੜਕਿ ਵਿਹਾਇ ॥ ਹੰਉਮੈ ਵਡਾ ਰੋਗੁ ਹੈ ਮਰਿ ਜੰਮੈ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ ॥ 

ਅਰਥ: ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਰਿਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਅਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਬਣੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਉਮਰ ਇਸ ਅਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਗੁਜ਼ਰ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ; ਅਹੰਕਾਰ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਲਈ) ਇਕ ਤਗੜਾ ਰੋਗ ਹੈ (ਇਸ ਰੋਗ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ) ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜੰਮਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਫੇਰ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਜੰਮਣ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ) ।

ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਪੂਰਬਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਤਿਨਾ ਸਤਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਇ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਉਬਰੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਜਲਾਇ ॥੨॥ 

ਅਰਥ: ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਮੁੱਢ ਤੋਂ (ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਸੰਸਕਾਰ-ਰੂਪ ਲੇਖ) ਉੱਕਰਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ (ਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਮਿਲਿਆਂ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਭੀ) ਆ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ; ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ('ਹਉਮੈ ਰੋਗ' ਤੋਂ) ਬਚ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।੨।

ਪਉੜੀ ॥ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਮਾਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਅਬਿਗਤੁ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਬਿਧਾਤਾ ॥ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਮ ਸ੍ਰੇਵਹ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਮ ਪੂਜਹ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੇ ਹੀ ਮਨੁ ਰਾਤਾ ॥

ਅਰਥ: ਜੋ ਹਰੀ ਅਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਇੰਦ੍ਰਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਤੋਂ ਪਰੇ ਹੈ, ਨਾਸ ਤੋਂ ਰਹਿਤ ਹੈ, ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਾਡਾ (ਰਾਖਾ) ਹੈ; ਅਸੀ ਉਸ ਹਰੀ-ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਸੇਂਵਦੇ ਹਾਂ, ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਪੂਜਦੇ ਹਾਂ, ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਸਾਡਾ ਮਨ ਰੱਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।

ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੈ ਜੇਵਡੁ ਕੋਈ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਸੂਝੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੋ ਅੰਤਿ ਛਡਾਤਾ ॥ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੀਆ ਗੁਰਿ ਪਰਉਪਕਾਰੀ ਧਨੁ ਧੰਨੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਕਾ ਪਿਤਾ ਮਾਤਾ ॥

ਅਰਥ: ਹਰੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਜੇਡਾ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਸੁੱਝਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ, ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਅਖ਼ੀਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਛਡਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਧੰਨ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਪਰਉਪਕਾਰੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਮਾਂ ਪਿਉ, ਜਿਸ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਨਾਮ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਿਆ ਹੈ।

ਹੰਉ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਅਪੁਣੇ ਕੰਉ ਸਦਾ ਨਮਸਕਾਰੀ ਜਿਤੁ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੈ ਜਾਤਾ ॥੧੬॥

SHALOK, THIRD MEHL:

Those who meet the True Guru, ever sing the Kirtan of the Lord’s Praises. The Lord’s Name naturally fills their minds, and they are absorbed in the Shabad, the Word of the True Lord. They redeem their generations, and they themselves obtain the state of liberation. The Supreme Lord God is pleased with those who fall at the Guru’s Feet. Servant Nanak is the Lord’s slave; by His Grace, the Lord preserves his honor. || 1 || THIRD MEHL: In egotism, one is assailed by fear; he passes his life totally troubled by fear. Egotism is such a terrible disease; he dies, to be reincarnated — he continues coming and going. Those who have such pre-ordained destiny meet with the True Guru, God Incarnate. O Nanak, by Guru’s Grace, they are redeemed; their egos are burnt away through the Word of the Shabad. || 2 || PAUREE: The Lord’s Name is my immortal, unfathomable, imperishable Creator Lord, the Architect of Destiny. I serve the Lord’s Name, I worship the Lord’s Name, and my soul is imbued with the Lord’s Name. I know of no other as great as the Lord’s Name; the Lord’s Name shall deliver me in the end. The Generous Guru has given me the Lord’s Name; blessed, blessed are the Guru’s mother and father. I ever bow in humble reverence to my True Guru; meeting Him, I have come to know the Lord’s Name. || 16 ||

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮਾਂ, ਪਿਉ, ਪੁੱਤਰ—ਇਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਬਣਾਏ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ । ਇਹਨਾਂ ਸਭਨਾਂ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਆਪੋ ਵਿਚ ਦਾ ਰਿਸ਼ਤਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ (ਸੋ, ਇਹ ਸਹੀ ਜੀਵਨ-ਰਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਰੁਕਾਵਟ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਨ) ।੧। ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਵੀਰ! (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਟਾਕਰੇ ਤੇ) ਸਾਡਾ ਕੋਈ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਚੱਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ । ਸਾਡਾ ਇਹ ਸਰੀਰ ਸਾਡਾ ਇਹ ਮਨ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਸਾਡਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਵੱਸ ਵਿਚ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ। ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਭਗਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਸਤ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ (ਮਾਂ ਪਿਉ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਆਦਿਕ ਸਨਬੰਧੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਰਹਿੰਦਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ) ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਚ ਨਿਰਲੇਪ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ।੨। ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਦੋਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਦੋਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ) ਉਹ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ ।੩। ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਕਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਜਿਸ ਕੰਮ ਵਿਚ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਲਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜੇਹੜਾ ਕੰਮ-ਕਾਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਾਥੋਂ ਕਰਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਅਸੀ ਉਹੀ ਕੰਮ-ਕਾਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਾਂ ।੪। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ—ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਪਸੰਦ ਆਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਪਾ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।੫।੧।੭।੧੬।

English Translation

ONE UNIVERSAL CREATOR GOD. BY THE GRACE OF THE TRUE GURU:

GUJRI, FOURTH MEHL, THIRD HOUSE:

Mother, father and sons are all made by the Lord; the relationships of all are established by the Lord. || 1 || I have given up all my strength, O my brother. The mind and body belong to the Lord, and the human body is entirely under His control. || 1 || Pause || The Lord Himself infuses devotion into His humble devotees. In the midst of family life, they remain unattached. || 2 || When inner love is established with the Lord, then whatever one does, is pleasing to my Lord God. || 3 || I do those deeds and tasks which the Lord has set me to; I do that which He makes me to do. || 4 || Those whose devotional worship is pleasing to my God — O Nanak, those humble beings center their minds lovingly on the Lord’s Name. || 5 || 1|| 7 ||16 ||

 ਸਲੋਕੁ ਮਃ ੪ ॥ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਹੈ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥ ਨਾਮੋ ਚਿਤਵੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਪੜੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਹੈ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਗਈ ਬਿਲਾਇ ॥ ਅਰਥ: ਜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਠੰਢ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਉਹ ਮਨੋਂ ਤਨੋਂ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ; ਉਹ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਚਿਤਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਪੜ੍ਹਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਬ੍ਰਿਤੀ ਜੋੜੀ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ; ਨਾਮ (ਰੂਪ) ਸੁੰਦਰ ਵਸਤ ਲੱਭ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ। ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਨਾਮੁ ਊਪਜੈ ਤਿਸਨਾ ਭੁਖ ਸਭ ਜਾਇ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੇ ਰਤਿਆ ਨਾਮੋ ਪਲੈ ਪਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਅਰਥ: ਜੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪਏ ਤਾਂ ਨਾਮ (ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ) ਪੁੰਗਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ) ਭੁੱਖ ਸਾਰੀ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਜਾਣ ਕਰਕੇ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ (ਹਿਰਦੇ-ਰੂਪ) ਪੱਲੇ ਵਿਚ ਉੱਕਰਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।੧। ਮਃ ੪ ॥ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪੁਰਖਿ ਜਿ ਮਾਰਿਆ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਭ੍ਰਮਿਆ ਘਰੁ ਛੋਡਿ ਗਇਆ ॥ ਓਸੁ ਪਿਛੈ ਵਜੈ ਫਕੜੀ ਮੁਹੁ ਕਾਲਾ ਆਗੈ ਭਇਆ ॥ ਅਰਥ: ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਪਰਮੇਸਰ ਵਲੋਂ ਮਾਰਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਜਿਸਨੂੰ ਰੱਬ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਾਸੇ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਕਾ ਹੀ ਨਫ਼ਰਤ ਹੈ) ਉਹ ਭਰਮ ਵਿਚ ਭਟਕਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਆਪਣੇ ਟਿਕਾਣੇ ਤੋਂ ਹਿੱਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਲੋਕ ਫੱਕੜੀ ਵਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤੇ ਅੱਗੇ (ਜਿਥੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ) ਮੁਕਾਲਖ ਖੱਟਦਾ ਹੈ। ਓਸੁ ਅਰਲੁ ਬਰਲੁ ਮੁਹਹੁ ਨਿਕਲੈ ਨਿਤ ਝਗੂ ਸੁਟਦਾ ਮੁਆ ॥ ਕਿਆ ਹੋਵੈ ਕਿਸੈ ਹੀ ਦੈ ਕੀਤੈ ਜਾਂ ਧੁਰਿ ਕਿਰਤੁ ਓਸ ਦਾ ਏਹੋ ਜੇਹਾ ਪਇਆ ॥ ਅਰਥ: ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮੂੰਹੋਂ ਨਿਰਾ ਬਕਵਾਸ ਹੀ ਨਿਕਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਹੀ ਦੁੱਖੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਕਿਸੇ ਦੇ ਭੀ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਕੁਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ (ਭਾਵ, ਕੋਈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਮੱਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਦੇ ਸਕਦਾ) , ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਮੁੱਢ ਤੋਂ (ਕੀਤੇ ਮੰਦੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੰਸਕਾਰਾਂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਹੁਣ ਭੀ) ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹੀ (ਭਾਵ, ਨਿੰਦਾ ਦੀ ਮੰਦੀ) ਕਮਾਈ ਕਰਨੀ ਪਈ ਹੈ। ਜਿਥੈ ਓਹੁ ਜਾਇ ਤਿਥੈ ਓਹੁ ਝੂਠਾ ਕੂੜੁ ਬੋਲੇ ਕਿਸੈ ਨ ਭਾਵੈ ॥ ਵੇਖਹੁ ਭਾਈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਹਰਿ ਸੰਤਹੁ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਕੀ ਜੈਸਾ ਕੋਈ ਕਰੈ ਤੈਸਾ ਕੋਈ ਪਾਵੈ ॥ ਏਹੁ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਦਰਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਅਗੋ ਦੇ ਜਨੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਆਖਿ ਸੁਣਾਵੈ ॥੨॥ {ਪੰਨਾ 653} ਅਰਥ: ਉਹ (ਮਨਮੁਖ) ਜਿਥੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਥੇ ਹੀ ਝੂਠਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਝੂਠ ਬੋਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਗਦਾ। ਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋਂ! ਪਿਆਰੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਵੇਖੋ, ਕਿ ਜਿਹੋ ਜਿਹੀ ਕੋਈ ਕਮਾਈ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਫਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਸੱਚੀ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਸੱਚੀ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਹੀ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਆਖ ਕੇ ਸੁਣਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ (ਤਾਂ ਜੁ ਭਲਾ ਬੀਜ ਬੀਜ ਕੇ ਭਲੇ ਫਲ ਦੀ ਆਸ ਹੋ ਸਕੇ) ।੨। ਪਉੜੀ ॥ ਗੁਰਿ ਸਚੈ ਬਧਾ ਥੇਹੁ ਰਖਵਾਲੇ ਗੁਰਿ ਦਿਤੇ ॥ ਪੂਰਨ ਹੋਈ ਆਸ ਗੁਰ ਚਰਣੀ ਮਨ ਰਤੇ ॥ ਗੁਰਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲਿ ਬੇਅੰਤਿ ਅਵਗੁਣ ਸਭਿ ਹਤੇ ॥ ਗੁਰਿ ਅਪਣੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰਿ ਅਪਣੇ ਕਰਿ ਲਿਤੇ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਦ ਬਲਿਹਾਰ ਜਿਸੁ ਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਗੁਣ ਇਤੇ ॥੨੭॥ ਅਰਥ: ਸੱਚੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ (ਸਤਸੰਗ-ਰੂਪ) ਪਿੰਡ ਵਸਾਇਆ ਹੈ, (ਉਸ ਪਿੰਡ ਲਈ ਸਤਸੰਗੀ) ਰਾਖੇ ਭੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਹੀ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਹਨ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਆਸ ਪੂਰਨ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਮਿਟ ਗਈ ਹੈ) ; ਦਿਆਲ ਤੇ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਾਪ ਨਾਸ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਹਨ; ਆਪਣੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਬਣਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਮੈਂ ਸਦਾ ਉਸ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਹਾਂ, ਜਿਸ ਵਿਚ ਇਤਨੇ ਗੁਣ ਹਨ।੨੭। SHALOK, FOURTH MEHL: Within the Gurmukh is peace and tranquility; his mind and body are absorbed in the Naam, the Name of the Lord. He contemplates the Naam, he studies the Naam, and he remains lovingly absorbed in the Naam. He obtains the treasure of the Naam, and his anxiety is dispelled. Meeting with the Guru, the Naam wells up, and his thirst and hunger are completely relieved. O Nanak, imbued with the Naam, he gathers in the Naam. || 1 || FOURTH MEHL: One who is cursed by the True Guru, abandons his home, and wanders around aimlessly. He is jeered at, and his face is blackened in the world hereafter. He babbles incoherently, and foaming at the mouth, he dies. What can anyone do? Such is his destiny, according to his past deeds. Wherever he goes, he is a liar, and by telling lies, he not liked by anyone. O Siblings of Destiny, behold this, the glorious greatness of our Lord and Master, O Saints; as one behaves, so does he receive. This shall be God’s determination in His True Court; servant Nanak predicts and proclaims this. || 2 || PAUREE: The True Guru has established the village; the Guru has appointed its guards and protectors. My hopes are fulfilled, and my mind is imbued with the love of the Guru’s Feet. The Guru is infinitely merciful; He has erased all my sins. The Guru has showered me with His Mercy, and He has made me His own. Nanak is forever a sacrifice to the Guru, who has countless virtues. || 27 ||

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮੇਰੀ ਕਮਜ਼ੋਰ ਜਿੰਦ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾਂ ਧੀਰਜ ਨਹੀਂ ਫੜ ਸਕਦੀ, ਜਿਵੇਂ ਛੋਟਾ ਬਾਲ ਦੁੱਧ ਦੇ ਸਹਾਰੇ ਹੀ ਰਹਿ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ । ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ, ਜੋ ਅਪਹੁੰਚ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਤਕ ਜੀਵ ਆਪਣੀ ਸਿਆਣਪ ਦੇ ਬਲ ਨਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਸਕਦਾ, ਜਿਸ ਤਕ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਗਿਆਨ-ਇੰਦ੍ਰਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ,ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ।੧।ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਣ ਦਾ ਜਤਨ ਕਰਿਆ ਕਰ!ਹੇ ਮਨ ! ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਜਲ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ। ਪਰ, ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ-ਜਲ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਹੋਵੇ ।੧। ਰਹਾਉ। ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਇਸ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਣ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਸਨਕ ਸਨੰਦਨ ਆਦਿਕ ਰਿਸ਼ੀ ਨਾਰਦ ਆਦਿਕ ਮੁਨੀ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਹੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ ,ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਜਪਦੇ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ । ਪ੍ਰਹਲਾਦ ਆਦਿਕ ਜੇਹੜੇ ਜੇਹੜੇ ਭਗਤ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਆਏ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਬਚਾਂਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ ।੨।ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸਾਰੇ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਇਕ ਅਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟ ਤੇ ਨਿਰਲੇਪ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹੀ ਵੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਸਾਰੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਨੂਰ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ।ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ! ਇਕ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦਾਤਾਂ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ । ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਮੰਗਤੇ ਹਨ ਤੇਰੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਹੱਥ ਖਿਲਾਰ ਕੇ ਮੰਗ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ ।੩।ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਬਚਨ ਅਮੋਲਕ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਅਨੋਖੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਂਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਸਰੂਪ ਬਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ, ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਕਾਮਯਾਬ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਆਪ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਕੁਲਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਲੰਘਾ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।੪।ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੁਚਿੱਤਾ-ਪਨ ਵਿਚ ਤੇ ਭੈੜੀ ਮਤਿ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਵਿਚ ਫਸੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦਾ ਹਨੇਰਾ ਪਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੋਈ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫਤਿ ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੁਖਾਂਦੀ ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਰਵਾਰ ਸਮੇਤ ਵਿਕਾਰ-ਭਰੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਿਚ ਡੁੱਬ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।੫।ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੂਜਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਮੰਦ-ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦੀ ਮੈਲ ਤਾਂ ਧੋ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਉਹ ਆਪ ਮਾਇਆ-ਵੇੜ੍ਹਿਆ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਾਈ ਮੈਲ ਖਾਣ ਦਾ ਆਦੀ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਿਚ ਫਸੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਇਸ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਦੇ ਸਮੂੰਦਰ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਨਾਂਹ ਉਰਲੇ ਪਾਸੇ ਆ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਨ, ਨਾਂਹ ਪਰਲੇ ਪਾਸੇ ਲੰਘ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਨ ।੬। ਪਰ ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਭੀ ਕੀਹ ਵੱਸ ? ਇਹ ਸਾਰਾ ਜਗਤ-ਤਮਾਸ਼ਾ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਹੈ, ਕਰਤਾਰ ਨੇ ਹੀ ਇਸ ਵਿਚ ਆਪਣੀ ਸੱਤਾ ਟਿਕਾਈ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ । ਸਾਰੇ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸੱਤਾ ਦਾ ਧਾਗਾ ਪਸਰਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਜਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਇਸ ਧਾਗੇ ਨੂੰ ਖਿਚ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਜਗਤ-ਤਮਾਸ਼ਾ ਅਲੋਪ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਪ ਰਹਿ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੭।ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਸ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਸਹੀ ਸਲਾਮਤਿ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਣਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਬੜੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਪਿਆਰ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਜੀਭ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ-ਰਸ ਨੂੰ ਚੱਖਦੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ । ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਆਖ ਮੈਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾਂ ਹੋਰ ਕੁਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਮੈਂ ਇਹੀ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਰਸ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਪਿਆਰੀ ਲੱਗਦੀ ਰਹੇ ।੮।੧।੭। 

English Translation

GUJRI, FOURTH MEHL, SECOND HOUSE:

ONE UNIVERSAL CREATOR GOD. BY THE GRACE OF THE TRUE GURU:

Without the Lord, my soul cannot survive, like an infant without milk. The inaccessible and incomprehensible Lord God is obtained by the Gurmukh; I am a sacrifice to my True Guru. || 1 || O my mind, the Kirtan of the Lord’s Praise is a boat to carry you across. The Gurmukhs obtain the Ambrosial Water of the Naam, the Name of the Lord. You bless them with Your Grace. || Pause || Sanak, Sanandan and Naarad the sage serve You; night and day, they continue to chant Your Name, O Lord of the jungle. Slave Prahlaad sought Your Sanctuary, and You saved his honor. || 2 || The One unseen immaculate Lord is pervading everywhere, as is the Light of the Lord. All are beggars, You alone are the Great Giver. Reaching out our hands, we beg from You. || 3 || The speech of the humble devotees is sublime; they sing continually the wondrous, Unspoken Speech of the Lord. Their lives become fruitful; they save themselves, and all their generations. || 4 || The self-willed manmukhs are engrossed in duality and evil-mindedness; within them is the darkness of attachment. They do not love the sermon of the humble Saints, and they are drowned along with their families. || 5 || By slandering, the slanderer washes the filth off others; he is an eater of filth, and a worshipper of Maya. He indulges in the slander of the humble Saints; he is neither on this shore, nor the shore beyond. || 6 || All this worldly drama is set in motion by the Creator Lord; He has infused His almighty strength into all. The thread of the One Lord runs through the world; when He pulls out this thread, the One Creator alone remains. || 7 || With their tongues, they sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, and savor Them. They place the sublime essence of the Lord upon their tongues, and savor it. O Nanak, other than the Lord, I ask for nothing else; I am in love with the Love of the Lord’s sublime essence. || 8 || 1 || 7 ||

ਅਰਥ: ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਹਸਤੀ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ ਫਲ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੈ। ਮੈਂ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ) ਦਰਸਨ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ। ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਕੋਮਲ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦਾ ਜਿੰਦ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਬਣਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ (ਰਹਿ ਕੇ) ਮੈਂ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਗੇੜ ਮੁਕਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕੰਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ (ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ) ਆਸਰਾ ਬਣਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹਾਂ।੨।

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਮੈਂ ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਲੋਭ ਮੋਹ (ਆਦਿਕ) ਨੂੰ ਤਿਆਗਿਆ ਹੈ। ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਪੱਕਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਟਿਕਾਣਾ, ਦੂਜਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਨੀ, ਆਚਰਨ ਨੂੰ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਰੱਖਣਾ-ਇਹ ਮੈਂ ਚੰਗੀ ਜੀਵਨ-ਮਰਯਾਦਾ ਬਣਾ ਲਈ ਹੈ।੩।

ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਆਖ-(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਤੂੰ ਭੀ) ਇਹ ਅਸਲੀਅਤ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾ ਲੈ, ਅਤੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪ ਕੇ (ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾ ਲੈ।੪।੧੨।੧੮।

SOOHEE, FIFTH MEHL:

Within my heart, I meditate on the Word of the Guru’s Teachings. With my tongue, I chant the Chant of the Lord. || 1 || The image of His vision is fruitful; I am a sacrifice to it. His Lotus Feet are the Support of the mind, the Support of the very breath of life. || 1 || Pause || In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, the cycle of birth and death is ended. To hear the Ambrosial Sermon is the support of my ears. || 2 || I have renounced sexual desire, anger, greed and emotional attachment. I have enshrined the Naam within myself, with charity, true cleansing and righteous conduct. || 3 || Says Nanak, I have contemplated this essence of reality; chanting the Name of the Lord, I am carried across. || 4 || 12 || 18 ||

 ਬਿਲਾਵਲੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੪ ॥ ਖਤ੍ਰੀ ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣੁ ਸੂਦੁ ਵੈਸੁ ਕੋ ਜਾਪੈ ਹਰਿ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੁ ਜਪੈਨੀ ॥ ਗੁਰੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਕਰਿ ਪੂਜਹੁ ਨਿਤ ਸੇਵਹੁ ਦਿਨਸੁ ਸਭ ਰੈਨੀ ॥੧॥ ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਦੇਖਹੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਨੈਨੀ ॥ ਜੋ ਇਛਹੁ ਸੋਈ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਵਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਬੋਲਹੁ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਬੈਨੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ ਅਨਿਕ ਉਪਾਵ ਚਿਤਵੀਅਹਿ ਬਹੁਤੇਰੇ ਸਾ ਹੋਵੈ ਜਿ ਬਾਤ ਹੋਵੈਨੀ ॥ ਅਪਨਾ ਭਲਾ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਈ ਬਾਛੈ ਸੋ ਕਰੇ ਜਿ ਮੇਰੈ ਚਿਤਿ ਨ ਚਿਤੈਨੀ ॥੨॥ ਮਨ ਕੀ ਮਤਿ ਤਿਆਗਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਏਹਾ ਬਾਤ ਕਠੈਨੀ ॥ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਵਹੁ ਗੁਰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਮਤਿ ਲੈਨੀ ॥੩॥ ਮਤਿ ਸੁਮਤਿ ਤੇਰੈ ਵਸਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਹਮ ਜੰਤ ਤੂ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਜੰਤੈਨੀ ॥ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਰਤੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਜਿਉ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਵੈ ਬੁਲੈਨੀ ॥੪॥੫॥

ਅਰਥ: ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਸੇਵਕ-ਜਨੋ! ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਖੋਲ੍ਹ ਕੇ ਵੇਖੋ (ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਹੈ) । ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਮਤਿ ਉਤੇ ਤੁਰ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਬਚਨ ਬੋਲੋ, ਜੇਹੜੀ ਇੱਛਾ ਕਰੋਗੇ ਉਹੀ ਫਲ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲਵੋਗੇ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।

ਕੋਈ ਖਤ੍ਰੀ ਹੋਵੇ, ਚਾਹੇ ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣ ਹੋਵੇ, ਕੋਈ ਸ਼ੂਦਰ ਹੋਵੇ ਚਾਹੇ ਵੈਸ਼ ਹੋਵੇ, ਹਰੇਕ (ਸ਼੍ਰੇਣੀ ਦਾ) ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਜਪ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ (ਇਹ ਸਭਨਾਂ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਜਪਣ-ਜੋਗ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਹਰੀ-ਜਨੋ! ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਜਾਣ ਕੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਵੋ। ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਏ ਰਹੋ।੧।

(ਗੁਰੂ ਪਰਮੇਸਰ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ-ਪਰਨਾ ਭੁਲਾ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਭਲਾਈ ਦੇ) ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਤੇ ਬਥੇਰੇ ਢੰਗ ਸੋਚੀਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰ ਉਹੀ ਗੱਲ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਜੋ (ਰਜ਼ਾ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ) ਜ਼ਰੂਰ ਹੋਣੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ। ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਆਪਣਾ ਭਲਾ ਲੋੜਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਉਹ ਕੰਮ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਮੇਰੇ (ਤੁਹਾਡੇ) ਚਿੱਤ ਚੇਤੇ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ।੨।

ਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋ! ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੀ ਮਰਜ਼ੀ (ਉਤੇ ਤੁਰਨਾ) ਛੱਡ ਦਿਉ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ ਤੁਰੋ) , ਪਰ ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਹੈ ਬੜੀ ਹੀ ਔਖੀ। (ਫਿਰ ਭੀ) ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਿਆ ਕਰੋ।੩।

ਹੇ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਚੰਗੀ ਮੰਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਤੇਰੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਵੱਸ ਵਿਚ ਹੈ (ਤੇਰੀ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਨਾ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਹੀ ਕੋਈ ਜੀਵ ਚੰਗੇ ਰਾਹ ਤੁਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਕੋਈ ਮੰਦੇ ਪਾਸੇ) , ਅਸੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਵਾਜੇ ਹਾਂ, ਤੂੰ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਵਜਾਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਸਭ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹੈਂ। ਹੇ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਕਰਤਾਰ! ਜਿਵੇਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਿਵੇਂ ਤੂੰ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਬੁਲਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਸਾਡੇ ਮੂੰਹੋਂ ਬੋਲ ਕਢਾਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ) ।੪।੫।

BILAAVAL, FOURTH MEHL:

Anyone, from any class — Kh’shaatriya, Brahman, Soodra or Vaishya — can chant, and meditate on the Mantra of the Lord’s Name. Worship the Guru, the True Guru, as the Supreme Lord God; serve Him constantly, all day and night. || 1 || O humble servants of the Lord, behold the True Guru with your eyes. Whatever you wish for, you shall receive, chanting the Word of the Lord’s Name, under Guru’s Instruction. || 1 || Pause || People think of many and various efforts, but that alone happens, which is to happen. All beings seek goodness for themselves, but what the Lord does — that may not be what we think and expect. || 2 || So renounce the clever intellect of your mind, O humble servants of the Lord, no matter how hard this may be. Night and day, meditate on the Naam, the Name of the Lord, Har, Har; accept the wisdom of the Guru, the True Guru. || 3 || Wisdom, balanced wisdom is in Your power, O Lord and Master; I am the instrument, and You are the player, O Primal Lord. O God, O Creator, Lord and Master of servant Nanak, as You wish, so do I speak. || 4 || 5 ||
